April 2nd at WLBT

Today my video shot with Rob Jay turned into a video shot with Scott LaPeer. We videotaped the JSU game at the Tiger baseball field on campus. Scott showed me how the camera works and how to edit video. He showed me how the editor works and how it captures video from the camera to the computer for airing. I stayed and watch the 6pm newscast and left an hour before the 10pm began. I'll be back on Tuesday April 6, 2010.

April 1st April Fool's Day

No April Fool's Jokes today, despite Rob Jay wanted me to go onto the set and do Sports in his place as a prank. We thought about it and decided not to do it but, we will save it for another time. Today I passed out more scripts, rundowns, and on Friday I will go out on a shot with Rob Jay in Sports.

WLBT WEDNESDAY MARCH 31, 2010

Today I assisted the newsteam with the behind the scenes of putting together the newscast. This included moving a chair for Rob Jay in Sports from the floor to the set all by myself. The production crew did tell me "thank you" so I got my pat on the back. I think I'm in now. Today our news director, Dennis Smith had me to interview a irate woman who was upset over unwanted phone and text messages. She wanted help from "Three On Your Side" but it wasn't a story idea that was approved because it didn't have enough newsworthy content to develop it. Mr. Smith did give me the chance to interview her so that was a good thing. Today I passed out more scripts and searched for story ideas. I watched the newscasts in the studio and control room alongside the producers and directors. This is just an overview to get a feel for how the operation works. I plan on going out on stories, writing, editing, and producing more next week.

TUESDAY THE WRITER

Today I wrote two voice overs with the help of Mrs. James, but I'm so glad she gave me the chance to write after the way I carried on about working at WJTV and WRBL. I didn't think I would have the chance to write so soon. I loved it and I saved my copy of the script and she gave me some producing pages and notes. The good news came when my vo's ran during the Noon Report. Today I continue to get an overview of WLBT 3 NEWS and passed out scripts and rundowns for the 5pm and 6pm newscast. Kevin Myers an associate producer showed me an overview of editing and running the prompter. Kevin will show me more next week. I worked today until 1pm. Its a great place to learn from the best.

WLBT MONDAY MARCH 29, 2010

I arrived today at WLBT3 and was introduced to members of the news team and a studio tour by my intern coordinator Mrs. Galean Stewart James. Mrs. James gave me an overview of how the ENPS works and how it helps the proudcers and reporters programs the stations news rundown, graphics, and contents. I had the oppportunity to meet most of the anchors who actually know me, maybe thats a good thing. They all welcome me aboard. I plan on spending most of my time learning how to write quicker scripts, produce, edit and shoot video. I watched the WLBT 4pm, 4:30pm, 5pm, and 6pm newscast. I will have another entry tomorrow.
